LIBRARY/ Our Mary Anning portrait on loan in Lyme Regis!
We are delighted that our famous portrait of palaeontologist Mary Anning is now on display in Mary’s home-town of Lyme Regis.
The 1850 portrait by B.J.M. Donne forms part of ‘Mary Anning Comes Home’, a new exhibition at Lyme Regis Museum which is open until the end of September.
This is the first time the portrait has ever been seen outside of the Society’s premises at Burlington House since it was acquired in 1875. It was gifted to us by the Earl of Enniskillen, who had purchased the portrait in Lyme Regis.
It is fitting that it has returned there in time to mark the unveiling of the new Mary Anning statue on the seafront!
Visit the Lyme Regis Museum website to find out more. |

The tour lasts between 60 & 90 minutes and costs just £10. With only 20 places available, it is advisable to book early.
